Radon Testing

You can’t see radon gas. You can’t smell it. But it’s dangerous. Breathing in high levels of radon can raise your risk of lung cancer.

Testing your home is the only way to find out if you have a radon problem.

In the United States, radon is the #2 cause of lung cancer after smoking and it is estimated to cause over 20,000 deaths each year.

Any home can have a radon problem.

High radon levels can be a risk anywhere in any state. Both old homes and new homes can have radon problems. So can homes with basements and homes without them. And 2 houses right next door to each other could have very different radon levels.

That’s why it’s so important for every home to get tested.

WDO (Wood Destroying Organisms) Inspection

Wood destroying insects (abbreviated WDIs) can do extensive damage to a home if left unchecked and permitted to continue for a period of time. Almost every home is potentially susceptible to these insects. The four types of insects commonly referred to as wood destroying insects are termites, carpenter ants, carpenter bees, and wood boring beetles.

It is estimated that over $3 billion per year is spent on WDI treatment. If proper routine maintenance is done by a home owner, the amount and severity of most WDI infestations could be lowered a great amount. All wood destroying insects are looking for wood for one of two reasons: to consume the wood or to nest in the wood. Making conditions so that insects can’t readily access wood around your home is a great way to lower your chances of being infested.

Gold Star’s WDI inspection can help save you hundreds, maybe even thousands of dollars, by identifying a problem before it becomes a very costly issue.

Lead Dust Testing

  • Lead can be very harmful, especially to young children. The most important step parents can take is to prevent lead exposure before it occurs.
  • Childhood lead poisoning at low levels may make learning difficult, interfere with growth, harm hearing and delay development.
  • Childhood lead poisoning at high levels may cause coma, convulsions and even death.

Lead can be found throughout a child’s environment, including:

  • homes built before 1978 that contain lead-based paint
    • peeling and cracking paint makes lead dust that can poison children when they swallow or breathe in the dust
  • certain water pipes
  • some consumer products, such as some toys and jewelry
  • some candies imported from other countries or traditional home remedies
  • certain jobs and hobbies involve working with lead-based products may cause parents to bring lead into the home.
